The schoolmistress exists only in court
Status is derived only from the shepherd-authored triage/prediction data above -- community submissions and claims are a separate overlay and can never change it (see the participation panel below).
“Anticipated in print” means the direction of this claim already appears in scholarship, while this exact test has never been run — it records prior art, not proof; nothing here counts as supported or falsified until a registered resolution says so.
Claim (verbatim)
The Geniza attests women teaching children their letters and their Bible, and it attests them in a peculiar way: the conjecture is that female teachers enter the record almost solely through disputes — a custody fight over a boy taught by his aunt, wage claims, divorce suits citing a wife's teaching — while male teachers also appear in appointments, communal payrolls, and honorific mentions. The join is between an occupation and its paper shadow: institutional records documented the official hierarchy, which excluded women, so only conflict, which documents everything it touches, wrote the schoolmistress down. The mechanism is thus record-entry through breakdown rather than through function. If this holds, the attested number of women teachers is really a count of lawsuits, the profession's true size must be back-calculated from litigation base-rates, and the same template recovers every informal female occupation the record shows only in court.
Prediction clause (verbatim)
In the Princeton Geniza Project, at least 75% of documents attesting a woman as a teacher are litigation or court records, versus at most 40% of documents attesting male teachers. Primary clause: the gap of at least 35 percentage points; the verdict follows it.
Kill-dataset (verbatim)
the Princeton Geniza Project: all teacher attestations coded for practitioner gender and document genre.
In the kill-dataset registry:
Nobody has run this test. The kill-data is named above. If you can run it — or you know the paper that already settles it — claim the kill or submit the prior scholarship. Kills and prior scholarship are credited here, by name, as they come in.

Novelty / leakage triage
anticipated in the literature — this exact test has never been run
Goitein's education chapters and later scholarship attest Geniza women teachers largely through disputes (the famous custody case over a boy taught by a female teacher), anticipating the record-entry-through-breakdown mechanism; the quantitative document-genre comparison vs male teachers is un-run.
