The Babylonian System B synodic month, 29;31,50,8,20 days - attested in Seleucid-era lunar tables of the 3rd-2nd centuries BCE and adopted verbatim by Hipparchus and then Ptolemy (Almagest IV.2, c. 150 CE) - carries a four-place sexagesimal fingerprint that survives every borrowing: any tradition that took its lunar theory from the Babylonian-Greek line reproduces the digit string, error and all. The wager here is AGAINST connection: Chinese calendrical science, from the Taichu reform of 104 BCE through the Sui, derived its lunation constants (29 43/81, 29 499/940, 29 2419/4559, and successors) from its own eclipse-cycle arithmetic, and although Zu Chongzhi's 5th-century value is more accurate than Babylon's, none of the Chinese fractions, converted to sexagesimal, will reproduce even the first three places 31,50,8. Two lunar theories of comparable precision, zero shared digits, no messenger before 600 CE.

The independence of early imperial Chinese lunar theory from the Babylonian-Greek line is the long-standing consensus, stated plainly in the standard treatments, and the pinned test is deterministic arithmetic on constants that have been in print for over a century: the Chinese fractions are known not to coincide with the Babylonian parameter, so the zero-three-place-match outcome is effectively guaranteed in located print. A computed check even shows the Jingchu fraction converting to 31,50,10..., matching two sexagesimal places by sheer accuracy of the value, which confirms that the test's discriminating power lives in places three and four but cannot make the outcome uncertain. The anti-connection wager restates settled scholarship and the census cannot surprise: leaked.
