This is a conjecture imagined by a language model — drawn from its trained weights and held to falsifiability, novelty, and plausibility, not to any one method: it may join two or more fields, or none. Claim (verbatim)

The only Greek alchemical books that survive physically from antiquity survive outside the manuscript tradition altogether. Leiden papyrus X and the Stockholm papyrus - sister books from a single Theban cache of around 300 CE, dispersed through the Anastasi consignments to Leiden and Stockholm in the 1820s-30s - carry roughly two hundred and fifty workshop recipes: alloys, gold- and silver-writing, gem and pearl imitation, purple substitutes. They are the practical stratum of the art, and that stratum has no Byzantine descendants: no medieval Greek manuscript transmits these texts or any recognizable recension of them. The theoretical corpus, meanwhile, survives only by the anthology-copying channel and left no ancient books at all. One art, two disjoint survival modes - burial for the shop-books, copying for the doctrine - with almost no traffic between the channels even at the level of individual recipes, as the apparatus of parallels in Halleux's edition lets us check. The mechanism: a shop-book's value was use, not prestige; it was consumed where it worked, never collected, and could reach us only by the archaeological accident that preserved it, while doctrine, prestigious and teachable, entered the collector's channel and paid the anthology filter's price. Prediction restated: CMAG records zero medieval witnesses of the papyri's texts, and fewer than 20 percent of the papyri's recipes have verbatim-class parallels anywhere in the CAAG corpus.

Halleux's edition states the isolation outright: the Leiden and Stockholm papyri are archaeological unica with no medieval manuscript tradition - no Byzantine witness transmits their texts - and his edition registers the parallels between the papyri's recipes and the later corpus in its apparatus, so both the zero-descendant clause and the thin parallel share are stated or tabulated in the very Bude volume the conjecture names as its instrument.
