The Cascajal Block is the loneliest document in the hemisphere: a serpentine slab from the San Lorenzo Olmec heartland, reported with associated ceramics of about 900 BCE, carrying 62 incised signs drawn from an inventory of roughly 28, in ordered sequences with internal repetitions — and its writing system matches nothing: not Zapotec, not epi-Olmec, not Maya. The Science report of 2006 (Rodríguez Martínez, Ortiz Ceballos, Coe, Diehl, Houston, Taube, and Calderón) recorded two further physical facts that carry the argument: the inscribed face appears ground down and re-carved — a palimpsest — and the block is the only known member of its script. Erase-and-rewrite wear means routine practice; nobody resurfaces a slab for a one-off. A routine writing practice with one durable survivor implies a corpus on perishable and reusable surfaces around 900 BCE, centuries before Zapotec's earliest monuments; and the zero continuity of the signary into any later script implies the tradition died — writing invented, used, and lost, with the region's later scripts owing it nothing. Two decades of subsequent fieldwork in the Olmec heartland have produced no second object, which is exactly what a perishable-corpus reading predicts and an engraving-fashion reading does not. Prediction: the published record through 2025 will show zero additional securely provenanced objects in the Cascajal signary from any excavation or survey, while the block's internal statistics stand as text-like, with at least three exactly repeated sequences of two or more signs in the published sign catalogue and sequence analyses (primary clause: the zero-additional-objects isolate census against the repeated-sequence text signature; a second provenanced Cascajal-script object, or a demonstration that the repetitions are decorative, kills it). The Cascajal Block's status as the sole known member of its script — no second securely provenanced object having appeared after two decades of San Lorenzo-heartland fieldwork — is stated in the 2006 Science report and reaffirmed since, and the internal text-like signature, including exactly repeated sign-sequences, is the reported finding of that team and of Mora-Marin's distributional analysis. A competent reader already knows the block remains an isolate carrying repeated sequences; the primary clause asks the record to confirm what the record already states, so the answer is leaked rather than un-run.
